3.12|Today

An impromptu photo shoot with my kids last week. They are good sports but only for about 10 minutes.

In other news: I was hit with some kind of virus today that pretty much kept me on the couch or the toilet. Jace stepped up and took care of things for me. He did the breakfast dishes (including loading and starting the dishwasher), cleaned up the toys that he and Mallory scattered, changed Mallory's diaper, got me food and played with his sister. He's a good boy and I'm glad he was around today. Now that his Dad is home he has reverted back to a normal five year old. Love that kid!

When I ask him to look at the camera these are usually the types of faces I get.
1. Winter - Snow really is beautiful. 2. Mally eating at the BYU creamery.
Celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday at BYU with Cosmo and the Cat in the Hat.
1. One of Jace's sight word cards. 2. Bear stew courtesy of Jace.

2.29|One Month of Instagram

So, I didn't quite take a picture a day. Honestly, I forget. I get busy with the kids or the house or really anything and then it's 9:00 and I realize I didn't take a picture. Here are the ones I did take with my iPhone this month:

1. I love flowers. They seem to make the room bright and cheery. 2. Just Jace. 3. Jazz playing Sacrament Kings (and Jimmer). Pretty sure there were more Jimmer fans there that night. 4. Ceiling of Energy Solutions Arena.

1. Grocery shopping. 2. Frozen water droplets on my windshield. 3. Library time. 4. At open gym.

Monster puppets that we made on a cold, snowy afternoon.

1. Photo by Jace. Winter came and went (fingers crossed). 2. Floor of the Utah State Capitol building. Jace's preschool fieldtrip was here this month.

1.30|Stories

It's no secret that I love photography. I love the creative, the technical, the art, the process. I love the emotion it creates and the beauty it captures. But my favorite part is the story it tells. I think photographs are a powerful tool for telling someone's story.

Each of these photos are technically imperfect. Each of these photos tell a story, record a memory. And because of that, each of these photos are a favorite of mine.

For me, they will remind me of things that might have been forgotten. Life as it was right then. I guess the trick to being a good photographer would be to tell a story that even those who weren't there can understand.

Story: it's warm enough in January to be in short sleeves, my kids love the tramp and chasing each other, Jace frequently wears more than one layer (on this particular day he had on four layers), our backyard is the mountain, Mally wears her snow boots everywhere and takes her baby everywhere, the size of Mally's feet, the fact that Mally has always been able to jump really well and Jace took a couple years to figure it out

1.27|Young Love...

Jace told me the other day that he found the girl he was going to marry at his preschool. He said she has really pretty hair and he really likes her eyes.

A couple days later he asked me to take him to the store so he could buy flowers for this girl. He wanted to give her something pretty. And then he could check love off his list for the day.
